System on Module (SOM) Solution Series
SOM is the new architecture for industrial applications that includes the ETX and COM Express Modules. SOM meets the emerging requirements of the embedded industry by providing complete PC functionality in very compact form factors.

SOM divides a complete motherboard system into two physical parts:
- SOMs as small as 4.5” x 3.7” support the onboard CPU system and core ASICs
- Companion baseboards include all I/O connectors plus some supplementary functions.

SOMs are interchangeable on a single baseboard so that several products can be launched at the same time offering a wide range of processing performance. A SOM approach of using a custom carrier combined with off-the-shelf system cores provides an excellent solution when you need to customize, but lack the time or quantity to justify a complete redesign.
